29.08.2014 – In clarifying the characteristics of those whom we should take knowledge from, during MPUBS’ T&T Summer Conference, our teacher and elder, Abu Hakeem Bilaal Davis (May Allah preserve him), highlighted the very important trait of the qualified teacher inheriting knowledge directly from the mouths of the scholars and not just taking it from books. Our teacher Abu Hakeem mentioned that the salaf would warn against the suhufee (the one who takes his knowledge only from books), and that we should be careful not to simply be bedazzled by memorization and fine speech without the proper understanding.
